I found this thought quite useful: "it is equally a mistake, I think, to allow ourselves to be morally and politically paralyzed in the absence of clarity." Thank you.
Thanks for another thought-provoking column. Ditto what our fellow reader said about your comment on the absence of clarity. That certainly seems to be paralyzing various members of NATO (hello Olaf Scholz!). The Russian emigre might be right about academics, but the world needs all thinkers and voices. The more people in the room the better.
Since I signed up to your sub stack, I have suddenly starting receiving emails from other ‘similar’ sub stacks. I do not believe in coincidences and believe that you are passing on my email details. All unsolicited emails are set to junk and I am unsubscribing.
Mark, honestly, I'm appalled that this has been your experience. I haven't shared anyone's details with anyone, but I will pass on your complaint anonymously to Substack. I am sorry to lose you as a reader. Best of luck and health.
I get these too. They must be from Substack, trying to increase readership. The benefits of reading these newsletters (I subscribe to 7) far outweigh this annoyance for me.

Thanks for your thoughts on analytic empathy and on polling in Russia. I wish you a speedy recovery from your vaccination.
